Tile Calculator — How Many Tiles Do I Need
Estimate the number of tiles, boxes, and adhesive you need for any floor, wall, or backsplash project.
Tile math runs on your device — nothing is uploaded or storedTry: Room area=100, Area unit=sqft, Tile width=12, Tile height=12, Grout width=0.125, Waste=10, Tiles per box=10, Adhesive (lb/ft²)=0, Bag covers (ft²)=50 → 100.00 ft², 12 × 12 in, 98, 10%, 108, 11 (10/box), 7 lb
How to use
Enter your room area and the tile size, pick a realistic waste percentage, and press Calculate. The estimate adds the grout lines into each tile footprint, then rounds up and applies your waste allowance.
FAQ
How much tile waste should I plan for?
Straight layouts usually need 5–10% extra; diagonal or herringbone patterns need 15% or more because of the off-cuts at the edges.
Does the calculator include grout lines?
Yes — each tile footprint is expanded by the grout width on every side before the area is divided, so the count reflects real coverage.
Why does it round up?
You cannot buy a fraction of a tile, so the result always rounds up to whole tiles, then adds the waste allowance on top.
